The front of coin has the bust of Balboa with the plumed helmet and the date. Under the bust and above the date is the word "Balboa". The back has the coat of arms of Panama and the words "Cinco Centesimos de Balboa" It also has the code "G. 2.500 Ley 0.900" indicating its Silver content.  The diameter is 18 mm (0.71 inches) and is made of 0.90 gm of Silver, and 0.10 gm of Copper. The weight of the coin was 2.50 g.

The difference between this coin and the 1929 & 1932 issue, is that coat of arms of Panama was changed. Most noticeable, the eagles wings cover part of the spears.
